Martin Krpan Elementary School
The project documentation for the primary school building was prepared by the IZP, DGD, PZI and PID. The new construction and renovation of the existing building, which was built in 1982, had to be planned in such a way that the operation of the school was as little disrupted as possible and that the construction could be carried out even when classes were held in the building, so it was planned to divide the project into several sections or phases. The documentation prepared included the addition of a new wing with classrooms, the addition of a dining room, the rearrangement of a small gym with accompanying rooms and the partial rearrangement of existing rooms. Due to the additions, the rearrangement of the school yard, the playground for the first triad and access for students was also necessary. The existing eastern extension of the southern wing was demolished as part of the reconstruction. In its place, a new two-storey building with eleven classrooms, an entrance and communication core and associated toilets was erected. The facade of the extension repeats the division of the facade of the existing wing by using facade aluminum lamellas, with which the internal wall structure is partially mapped onto the external envelope of the building. The facade is structured in several planes, which also justifies the different use of materials and architectural elements along the perimeter of the extension. The brick cladding of the facade forms the main mass of the building and repeats the silicate brick that is present on the buildings located in the immediate vicinity of the elementary school.
